Net Detective - Continued The database you are about to access is the most complete of its type available anywhere on the net. It contains information on nearly 200 million people in the US. The content has been developed from information contained in phone directories, DMV records, voter registrations, and many other public files. You won't find this powerful feature in any other competitor's product. An example of a "People Search:By Name" result is shown below. Once you determine which listing your subject may be, click on the name to view the name, address, phone number if available, birth month and year if available, and names of other people who may be living at that address.
II. The next category, and newest feature in Net Detective, is the Background Wizard
Background Wizard will open up the whole vast world of public records, both online and offline. You need no experience at all to conduct background checks using your program. Just follow the instructions and your program will direct you to all of the public records you need for a full background check. To begin a background check, click on Verify Personal Information. Follow the steps for each search category (see list below) depending upon the amount of information you already have.
Of course, the way that the Net Detective is constructed allows you to choose the steps in any order. You can skip from one category to another or follow the Background Wizard's format. An example of a Background Wizard search result for Lawsuit History is shown below. There are 21 topic specific links from adoption to viruses. If you have checked out all of the links and still have not located what you need, you have two more options under Search at the bottom of the grid list: "Didn't find what you were looking for?": Here you will use keywords to go out and search the Net for more options. We have provided a list of suggested keywords for your convenience for each topic. Simply select a keyword, or choose one of your own, type it in the search box and hit "Search". This search option can always be accessed by clicking on the globe icon next to the print icon. (see the red arrow in the picture below) - "More search engines": By clicking on this option, you will see a table of search engine resources. Simply click on the name of the engine of your choice. IV. Specialty Search Engines For those times when you want to find more than just web pages and web sites, some of these specialty search sites will prove useful. They'll help you search through newsgroups, databases, find software online and more. By limiting indexing to sites or pages on a subject, specialty engines offer more relevant results in less time. They also allow "sloppier" searching: searches on single words, or searches without limiters, and produce better results than they would in general tools. V. International The International option offers a collection of web sites from 171 countries around the world. Use these helpful links to locate people and search foreign directories from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe! The countries are divided into two categories: A-M and N-Z. There are miscellaneous sites for various global interests as well. VI. Invisible Web The Invisible Web, or the Deep Web, is the vast hidden store of searchable databases that are publicly accessible, but not indexed by major search engines for technical reasons. The largest part of the Invisible Web is made up of information stored in databases that a search engine spider cannot access. The spider can tell you what the page may be about, but cannot access the content of those pages. We have compiled a source of Invisible Web tutorials and resources. VII. Launch Case Log The Case Log, or Investigator's Electronic Notebook, offers a collection of information and organization tools that an investigator may find useful in his or her day to day operations. You will find tools such as a daily planner, an investigative database, a missing person's check list, investigative tools (calculator, area code lookup, birthday lookup, SSN state of issue lookup, FEIN lookup), notebook, and much, much more! Use this convenient tool to help you keep track of your investigative information or personal notes. VIII. Offline Resources You will find a database of the offline sources that are available in each state and are useful for gathering investigative information. This section provides contact information and notes on each source listed. For State Services:
For Investigative Resources: Investigative Resources provides a list of offline investigative resources grouped under the topics Investigative, Government, State, Financial, Genealogy, and Experts. The information consists of names, addresses, phone numbers and a brief description of services. For Misc. Resources: Here you will find a directory of miscellaneous resources from accident reconstruction to untraceable phone calls. IX. Member Site Visit our Net Detective Member Site for all of your support needs. From support materials to user tips, you'll find it at the Member site. X. Professional Tips We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions (FAQ's) and tips for how and where to begin searching for a person. Many investigators and other researchers will use online Internet information brokers to obtain public records. However, with a little leg work, Internet surfing and research, one can obtain most of their subject’s background information from public sources. XI. Tools Superlok: Superlok is a simple-to-use encryption
program. Both encryption and decryption use the same process. The first
time you process a file, it will encrypt. The second time, with the same
password, it will decrypt. It basically works like a toggle switch.
Search Utility: The Net Detective Search Utility
is a very useful tool that remains as an icon in your system tray (where
your clock is) until called upon, at which point it becomes a powerful
desktop search tool for the Internet. With it, one can locate people,
search newsgroups, locate businesses, or even perform general searches,
using only a couple of key strokes.
FBI Files: In this report, you will discover not
only how to obtain your files and where to send for them, but you will
also discover some of the codes and acronyms used in FBI files.
XII. Help Net Detective 8.0 has new HELP features located
